This school is a
Montessori-curriculum based school and is a partial magnet,
A unique challenge in the project was the rehabilitation of the existing 1919 historic facades, to which the newly constructed building was built back. The interior of the existing school building was demolished and new brace constructed to temporarily support the renovated facades.
The overall design approach for the new building takes its cues from the height, scale and mass of the historic facades while using the constrained site as efficiently as possible. the design incorporates a reorientation of the primary entrance from a residential street to a commercial street, establishing a significant presence on the urban streetscape.
