1985 Merit Award, SC Chapter, AIA

Lady's Island Junior High School utilizes a unique design and layout to maximize the learning environment and to take advantage of the stunning, low country views inherent in this site.

A landscaped, exterior amphitheater overlooking the marsh provides a key location for students and faculty to interact.

The classroom spaces are organized into Learning Units, providing a series of schools within a school. Each unit is comprised of four classrooms- one for each discipline, as well   as teacher's work space and locker rooms. Each learning unit accommodates 100 students who spend most of their academic day with the same students and faculty. This allows the students to identify with a smaller, cohesive unit within the larger 1200 student complex.
